Open Dome Event - A Universe from Scratch
The Universe is a powerful theme to contemplate where we come from. Modern astronomy has developed cosmological models to simulate how our Universe became what it is now. Join Dr J Onions (UoN) to hear how to make A Universe from Scratch.
- From: Wednesday 29 March 2017, 8 pm
- To: Wednesday 29 March 2017, 10 pm
- Location: CELS, Nottingham Trent University, Clifton Campus, Clifton Lane, Nottingham, NG11 8NS
Astronomy has at its heart the question where do we come from. Especially the branch of cosmology attempting to create reliable models of our Universe that help us understand what was there at the very beginning.
Dr J Onions (UoN) will be talking about how such simulations can show how our Universe evolves and how this knowledge helps astronomers. He will also point out areas that pose a challenge for current models. This presentation will be followed by a brief introduction to what is visible in this month's sky.
Booking is required for this event. While attending, you consent to filming, photography, and sound recording – which may include you as a member of the audience – and its use in publication or advertising distribution, either printed or online, without payment or copyright.
The event will start at 8 pm with Dr J Onions (UoN) talk A Universe from Scratch. Refreshments will be offered from 7.45 pm in the CELS foyer. Afterwards, visitors will get a tour of the NTU observatory and the chance to see interesting objects in the spring sky using the observatory's telescopes, small telescopes and binoculars, if the weather allows it.
If the weather is not good, a small planetarium session will be offered in the observatory pointing out objects of interest.
