Margaret Boden OBE FBA is Research Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of Sussex, where she helped develop the world's first academic programme in cognitive science.
She holds degrees in medical sciences, philosophy and psychology, and integrates these disciplines with artificial intelligence (AI) in her research.

Lecture abstract: AI has an exciting past, and an equally exciting future. Not least, it has taught us to appreciate the power, subtlety, and richness of human minds.
But some widespread expectations (and fears) won’t be fulfilled; the robots won’t take over.
Nevertheless, there are things that we should be worrying about, including the importation of AI into social situations deserving truly interpersonal contact.
