Held in partnership with the Charted Institute of Marketing (CIM) this event will ask how retailing can differentiate itself through distinctive design solutions, engage consumers, and contribute to vibrant communities.

High streets are being hit by a perfect storm of online competition, higher rates, and cost pressures on imported goods. While the retail sector often responds with price-led promotions, stores can compete through through design. This event will examine design solutions in retailing, from experiences to regeneration and look to a future that converges online and offline worlds.

The learning outcomes of the event will be an ability to describe retail and service design, to analyse the contribution of design to the differentiation of retail store brands, and to evaluate the possibilities of designed store evironments in the future.

The event is designed for colleagues with an interest in retailing, consumption, place marekting, and services. The evening will be led by Professor Anthony Kent, Nottingham Trent University and editor of of a new book Retail Design: Theoretical Perspsectives (2017) with an overview of key developments in retail design.
