As part of the School of Science and Technology Joint seminar programme for the Engineering and Materials and Computing and Informatics Research Centres, Jim Ang, University of Kent, presents: Computing Seminar – Digital Health Engineering: a multidisciplinary approach.

Abstract

The seminar focuses on the topic “digital health engineering” at University of Kent, in which multidisciplinary teams of researchers from engineering, computer science, biosciences, psychology, health and medical sciences and digital arts work together to design, develop and evaluate novel technologies in the healthcare domains.

These technologies can help support accurate, cost-effective and faster assessment and diagnosis as well as treatment and (self-) management of health conditions, through effective prevention, early intervention, personalised treatment and continuous monitoring of the conditions.

In this seminar, a range of multidisciplinary research projects will be presented and discussed, including sexual health technology intervention, novel interfaces to control the wheelchair with tongues, swallowing rehabilitation through computer games, use of virtual reality for pain management, and more. The central theme of these projects lies in solving problems faced by real people through robust engineering, often by blending the physical and virtual worlds.

All welcome.

This seminar will be hosted by Dr Richard Cant.
