Event details

We invite local small and medium organisations from the D2N2 area (Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire) to get involved with the new Enabling Innovation programme.

This hands-on workshop, run by Ian Abbott will help SMEs explore the possibilities of new products and services and aid you in developing your ideas into reality.

Ian has worked as a senior buyer for Boots and now runs his own beauty business, has a business consultancy focussed on growth, and is a non-executive director of a software company. Ian has worked on sales and growth with companies working in very diverse sectors including Weight Watchers, Innocent Drinks and Cowshed, as well as many small businesses around Nottingham.

We will go through the innovation process step by step, exploring:

The value of innovation*

The barriers to innovation, and creating the right conditions for innovation*:-
1. Future orientation.
2. Commitment to action and learning.
3. Acceptance and control of risk.

Techniques for idea generation*
4. No ideas are bad ideas!
5. What ideas would another successful business bring to your business?
6. What can we learn from the past?
7. What ‘rules’ around your business can be got around?
8. How would you be the BEST in your market?
9. Randomisation

*We will aid you in creating an action plan to take away with you and provide follow up advice and support to see make your plans into a reality. This can be via 1:1 mentoring sessions or a bespoke support plan agreed with your Innovation Coordinator.
