Event details

In early 2017 Nick contacted a local Nottinghamshire charity and asked if he could carry out some research for his MA project. Almost five months on he is now a full-time volunteer and has formed some lasting friendships – their common ground is art; looking at it, talking about it, making it.

The service users, Nick’s new friends, are registered blind or living with other forms of visual impairment. Through the ongoing, user-led session, his initial enquiry turned from “what can you do for me” i.e. how will it inform my research, to “what can we do together” i.e. what will we make, draw, build, sculpt or paint in today’s session, and how much fun can we have whilst doing it?

Nick's artistic practice doesn’t aim to offer a "solution for blind people", or anyone else with other physical or sensory needs, but it does strive to increase inclusivity. Nick believes “creativity is for everybody, and as contemporary practitioners, we should all be aware of, and respond to, the diverse audience that is engaging with our work.”

This session will be repeated on Wednesday 19 July, 10 am - 12 pm

PLEASE NOTE: the session on Wednesday 19 July does not include the support of a sign interpreter.

Tactile Toolkit is part of Mastered, an exhibition showcasing the innovation and creativity of the Masters students graduating from Nottingham Trent University's School of Art & Design.
