Corens wall works contain cartoon-like clouds broken by grids of colour and texture, raking perspectives, drop shadows and the interplay of frenetic lines. He describes the direct link between his experience of music and the visual language of his practice, crediting the structure and strategies found in electronic dance music, jazz and disco as the genesis of the works.
Recent solo exhibitions include:
- A solo presentation of work, Frieze Art Fair, New York, 2017
- Whistle Bump Super Strut, Seventeen, London, March 2017
- click, click, click-clap-click, galeriepcp, Paris, December 2016
He recently curated the group exhibition Cuts, Shapes, Breaks and Scrapes at Seventeen, London alongside Gabriel Hartley, and has also co-founded curatorial projects including Opening Times and bubblebyte.org.
Rhys Coren (b. 1983, Plymouth, UK) completed a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy of Art in 2016, he now lives and works in London. He is currently represented by Seventeen gallery in London.
