Event details

This workshop will focus on improving the confidence and communication skills of graduate scientists working in small and medium businesses. The workshop will put you into small collaborative groups, mixing with other young professionals and final year students here at Nottingham Trent University. The event will be guided by a member of the science academic staff, with support from the Employability team. Attendees will be working with each other in small groups to provide each other with support and advice and tips.

Content will include:

  • A short introduction by Dave Fairhurst
  • 20 minutes each to discuss a project you are working on and for the group to ask questions and offer advice. This will be a very informal presentation on a whiteboard, so preparation required. You can bring a sample or a video if it is essential
  • A tour of NTU’s Science & Technology Facilities, within your group.

Many young scientists leave Education with a brilliant knowledge of their subject but can be held back by shyness and a lack of education in the soft skills. This workshop aims to give you the footings to build a portfolio of these skills to help you better communicate your ideas and projects to your contemporary’s and colleagues in an effective manner.

This workshop is intended to be the first of a series of workshops covering a variety of skills a modern scientist will need to innovate.
