Event details

This workshop will focus on improving the confidence and communication skills of graduate scientists working in small and medium businesses.

Interviews come in many forms, you may have to talk to media regarding a new breakthrough, a funding board to enthuse them and get the money you need for your work or pitching for projects.

Whichever it is, it comes down to confidence in your own ability and this workshop aims to give you that. In similar groups to our first workshop, you will take part in an interactive session to explore interview and pitching skills, offering positive feedback and constructive criticism.

Content will include:

  • A short introduction by Dave Fairhurst
  • A short 10 minute interview conducted by your peers, based around a variety of topics from your research to your interests. The group will then watch the video back and discuss the pro’s and con’s of the interview.
  • A tour of  Science & Technology Facilities, within your group.

Many young scientists leave Education with a brilliant knowledge of their subject but can be held back by shyness and a lack of education in the soft skills. This workshop aims to give you the footings to build a portfolio of these skills to help you better communicate your ideas and projects to your contemporary’s and colleagues in an effective manner.

This workshop is part of a series of workshops covering a variety of tools a modern scientist will need to innovate.
