As part of the School of Science and Technology's Joint Seminar Programme for the Engineering and Materials and Computing Informatics Research Centres, Dr Naresh Sampara, University of Nottingham presents: Physics Seminar: Walkers in a confined container and their interactions.
Abstract:
A millimeter-sized oil droplet can bounce on a vertically vibrated liquid bath for unlimited time. It may couple to the surface wave it emits; leading to horizontal self-propulsion called walking. When several walkers coexist close to one another, they either repel or attract each other, in response to the superposition of the waves they generate.
This seminar is hosted by Professor Carl Brown/Dr Christopher Castleton.
All welcome.
