Abstract
In this talk, “Riding on the Edge of Control”, Dries Verbruggen will discuss how the subject of control, both reclaiming and relinquishing of it, is an essential part of the work of design studio Unfold, based in Antwerp, Belgium. Designers today are reclaiming some responsibilities lost during the transition from craftsman to industrial designer and becoming more autonomous again in production, financing or promotion of their work. This is a subject that runs through many of our projects. But on the other hand, we’re interested in relinquishing control, from the open sourcing of our ceramic 3D printing process and intensively working with the network of makers.
