- To: Thursday 19 April 2018, 8 pm
- Registration: 5 pm
- Location: CHR1002, Large Courtroom, Chaucer Building, Nottingham Trent University, Goldsmith Street, Nottingham, NG1 5LP
The final will give Nottingham Law School students the opportunity to watch experienced legal professionals practice their advocacy skills.
There will be four candidates in the final round. The competition is open to trainee solicitors, paralegals and pupil barristers. It provides competitors an opportunity to practice their advocacy skills in a realistic court room setting, with feedback from experienced practitioners and professional judges.
In round one, the candidates had the choice of whether to present a ten minute:
- criminal sentencing exercise; or
- civil application.
Each finalist will take the role of either the prosecution or the defence in a mock criminal trial with volunteers on hand to play the role of witnesses. The competition will be judged by Crown Court Judge(s). The judges will be looking for candidates who show clarity of expression, thoroughness and persuasiveness.
Nottingham Law School students are invited to watch the full mock trial.
