The Design Innovation Hub at Nottingham Trent University is offering an Introduction to Packaging Design

This expert led, informative event will be delivered by three speakers who have extensive knowledge and experience within the packaging industry; Jonathan Fowle of Innovati Partners, Liam Barbary of Benchmark Consulting and Pat Taylor of XL at Procurement.

Delegates will hear about the hot topic of ‘sustainable packaging’ plus a packaging materials ‘break-down’, supply chain considerations, procurement issues and the ‘innovation in packaging’.

Content will include:

  1. Introduction to Packaging – terminology, common materials used and their performance. Pack formats and how they are made.
  2. Sustainability, innovation – how to select the correct solution. Environmental considerations will be covered.
  3. Principles of buying packaging – How to run a tender event. Monitoring the commercial and technical performance of a supplier. Supply chain considerations.

This event is free to attend, but attendees must register in advance. In order to attend this event you must be eligible for support from the Enabling Innovation Programme, which supports SMEs in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Enabling Innovation is a three-year collaboration between Nottingham Trent University, the University of Nottingham, and the University of Derby to support SMEs in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to innovate. It is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Pat Taylor – Founding Partner XL@Procurement Ltd

As Head of Procurement for three of the UK's largest and best food manufacturing companies (UB, Heinz and Premier Foods) and with 26 years procurement experience, he has gained plenty of experience running teams of buyers with substantial and complex food and packaging categories to manage.

Liam Barbary BA(hons) FIMMM - Benchmark Consulting

Over 15 years in the flexible packaging industry.  Having worked for Amcor Flexibles managing the UK dairy and meat market in the UK and subsequently Suedpack as their Global Key Account Director, Liam has a vast experience in packaging sales to key accounts. In 2011 Liam, along with two business partners, setup Benchmark Consulting and developed the worlds fist web based estimating tool.

3D Design Technology workshops

The Enabling Innovation team are pleased to extend an invitation to these free events which are open to small and medium sized businesses based in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire (D2N2) area.

These workshops will be delivered by Dana Church and Cara Roberts who each many years industry experience in design and manufacturing, integrating 2D and 3D Design disciplines with disruptive digital technologies into the production process.
