Abstract

Narratives from the biological sciences pervade our lives, they shape our interpretations of the world and, as such, can be formative of our behaviours. Within this talk I will introduce some foundational ideas from the sociological exploration of scientific knowledge to help unpack the power which is embedded in ideas about hormones. This case study can provide a 'way in' to help reconsider the manner in which many of us habitually reach for biological explanations for complex socio-cultural behaviours.

This seminar is hosted by Professor Craig Sale.

All welcome.
