Amateur astronomers come from all walks of life and allocate a huge amount of their time to astronomy. They contribute to astronomy in many ways and inspire others to look into the sky. Nottingham boasts several astronomy societies that link up keen astronomers and offer access to observatories.
Mr A Heath (NAS) is one example of such a dedicated amateur astronomer and the longest serving member of the Nottingham Astronomical Society (NAS). He travelled the world with Sir P Moore and has an asteroid named after him. Together with Mr J Dawson (NAS), Mr A Heath (NAS) will be telling us more about his life in his talk titled A life time of astronomical observations.
Booking is required for this event. While attending, you consent to filming, photography, and sound recording – which may include you as a member of the audience – and its use in publication or advertising distribution, either printed or online, without payment or copyright.
The event will start at 8 pm with Mr A Heath (NAS) and Mr J Dawson (NAS) talking about A life time of astronomical observations. Refreshments will be offered from 7.45 pm in the CELS foyer. Afterwards, visitors will get a tour of the NTU observatory and the chance to see interesting objects in the Spring sky using the observatory's telescopes, small telescopes and binoculars, if the weather allows it.
If the weather is not good, a small planetarium session will be offered in the observatory pointing out objects of interest.
