In her inaugural lecture, Professor Usha Ramanathan will give a brief introduction covering her academic experiences. She'll introduce the concept of collaborative supply chains and sustainability in food and packaging companies, discussing various models of sustainability.

Interesting journey from Mathematics to Management: A diverse perception of collaboration

In this lecture, Usha will introduce the complications of understanding management of businesses and collaborations through the lens of mathematics.  The example of selected industrial cases in the UK and India will be used to demonstrate the beauty of mathematics in understanding the nuances of collaborative supply chains and sustainability. Finally, she will summarise the quantitative perceptions of management and related managerial decision making in companies working under high competition.

Professor Usha Ramanathan, Nottingham Trent University

Usha Ramanathan joined Nottingham Business School in March 2016. In the past, she has worked in the Higher Education sector within the UK and internationally, including India and Oman. Usha is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy and a Life Member of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the prestigious European Operations Management Association (EUROMA). Her teaching experience in Mathematics and Management spans over 23 years.

At Nottingham Business School, Usha is a module leader for the PG module ‘Data Analysis for Managerial Decision Making’. Usha’s research interests include supply chain collaboration for sustainability, information sharing and forecasting, e-commerce, Big Data, IoT, food supply chains, operations and retail management. She has published in leading journals such as International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Annals of Tourism Research, Expert Systems with Applications and Omega: The International Journal of Management Science. Some of her research work received honours including the ‘Highly Commended Award’ at the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence in 2012 and 2018. She has received funding from the British Council, the British Academy and the Interreg North West Europe for her projects. Usha has supervised several PhD students to completion. She is a keynote speaker for many international conferences. Usha is currently an external examiner for Northumbria University, and has evaluated PhD theses submitted to several universities.
