As part of the School of Science and Technology SHAPE Research Centre Seminar Series, Kirsten Fasey, Nottingham Trent University presents: Organisational resilience in elite sport.

Abstract

High-performing corporate environments and cultures are regarded by UK Sport, amongst others, as vital to enable British sport to thrive on the world stage.  Moving beyond structural governance solutions, the focus is shifting towards cultural and behavioural development across the sector. However, elite sport organisations are challenged by high levels of uncertainty and change both from within and without, evidenced by high staff turnover and unreliable funding structures.Organisational resilience considers how and why organisations successfully deal with such dynamic and complex environments. This talk will provide an overview of a novel research stream considering how organisational resilience is conceptualised by those working within the elite sport context, as well as the range of factors and underlying mechanisms which may equip some organisations to respond better than others.
