As part of the School of Science and Technology Chemistry and Forensic Science Colloquium Terri Cole, University of Bournemouth presents: The Role of the Behavioural Investigative Advisor in Serious Crime Investigations.

Abstract

This talk will give a general overview of the role of a Behavioural Investigative Advisor – previously known as offender profilers, in serious crime investigations the UK. It will focus upon how they go about providing advice to investigations and their role in profiling, offence linkage and interviewing suspects. Case studies will be incorporated throughout and time will be given for questions.

Bio

Dr Terri Cole is a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology at Bournemouth University.  She runs the Investigative Forensic Psychology Masters programme. Previously she worked in practice to 13 years as a Behavioural Investigative Advisor, providing advice to investigations of murder, rape and abduction. Prior to that she worked as a Serious Crime analyst looking at linkage of serious sexual offences throughout the UK. Her areas of research involves pragmatic application of psychological theories to assist the police, and difficult to detect murder.
