Abstract

Professor Neil White is Director of the Centre for Health Technologies in the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton and also Visiting Professor in the School of Science and Technology, Nottingham Trent University. In this talk, he will review the process of screen printing as the main enabling technology for thick-film devices and will explain how the technology can be used to fabricate low-cost and robust sensors. He will also discuss some applications in the area of healthcare and will describe an ongoing project with Nottingham Trent University to develop a novel type of respiration sensor. The device has recently undergone extensive testing on patients at University Hospital Southampton and has been shown measure respiration rate to a similar degree of accuracy to commercial systems.
