As part of the School of Science and Technology's Engineering Research Seminar Series, Philippa Jobling, Nottingham Trent University presents: The effect of tri-suit polymer coating on evaporative heat loss and thermoregulation during steady-state exercise in the heat.

Abstract

The use of pre-cooling strategies such as cold-water immersion, ice slurries and ice vests have found to benefit endurance performance however, they only prove favourable at increasing heat capacity towards the beginning of a race. Therefore, the use of 'per-cooling’ could be useful as a new method of delaying or preventing the onset of heat stress. During exercise in the heat, evaporation of sweat from the skin surface is an important mechanism of heat loss. This presentation will discuss how tri-suit coating affects the evaporative heat loss during steady state exercise in hot and humid conditions.
