Landing on planets has become something normal. Landing on asteroids or comets we've done as well. But returning samples from an asteroid is something altogether special.
This month the NASA built OSIRIS-REx probe is TAGing the asteroid Bennu. This means it is carrying out a touch-and-go manoeuvre to collect the largest haul of space rock since the moon landings. Not an easy task given the rocky nature of Bennu that is so far away that all the operations have to run autonomously. Dr D Brown (NTU) will talk us through this exciting mission in his online presentation TAG an Asteroid. We will hear about what still awaits and the what we can learn from these interplanetary rocks.
Given the current COVID-19 situation, this event is not taking place as a public NTU event. However, our panel will provide their discussion as an online recording to everyone who is booked onto this event. We will email a link to the material on YouTube to everyone who has booked. We will be happy to answer questions posted during the talk.
