Climate justice meets social justice: A talk on race and colonialism in the age of the Anthropocene

How to reckon with climate justice as part of ongoing efforts to bring about social justice, not least those pertaining to race? This session, lead by Dr Gavin Weedon, explores how critical scholarship in the social sciences and humanities is thinking planetary and social justice issues together. It is intended as a synthesis of recent scholarship broaching these issues– such as ‘A Billion Black Anthropocene’s or None’ (Kathryn Yusoff, 2018); ‘History 4 Degrees Celsius’ (Ian Baucom, 2020); and ‘Pollution is colonialism’ (Max Liboiron, 2021) – and as a forum for discussion on the challenges and possibilities that emerge from thinking about our geological epoch, the Anthropocene, as a racialized moment of planetary change.
