In the current economic climate and with customer behaviours constantly changing, marketing is now more important than ever to the survival and success of businesses.

The Digital Fundamentals course, which is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), has been designed specifically for SMEs and sole traders that want to grow their businesses. You will learn about the different tools available to you and how to develop engaging digital marketing content. To ensure that you manage your time and resources effectively you will also learn how to develop digital communications campaigns and how to measure the effectiveness of these campaigns.

Please note: to be eligible for this course, you must be an employee of an SME that is based in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire.

Digital Fundamentals is a fully funded, Level 3 Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) accredited course. By signing up, you’ll receive a one-year CIM membership and can take a timed assessment which will give you 12 credit points towards a full CIM qualification.

As a business owner, entrepreneur, or someone responsible for external communications, you will already understand how important your reputation is to your success. It truly can be the deciding factor in whether or not customers choose to come to you instead of your competitors.

Effective marketing helps to build your brand and have a lasting impact by getting the word out about your business and allowing you to connect with new customers. You can build your current customer base, and most importantly, boost your sales.

Programme

Course dates and content

Digital Fundamentals courses will run over six sessions on consecutive Wednesdays. Four of the sessions will be online and two face to face. Each session runs from 10 am – 1 pm.

This course will run on the following dates and cover the following topics:

  • Understand the impact of digital marketing on marketing activities
Session 2:

  • Understand the effect of digital technology on customers
  • Understand the use of digital marketing tools
Session 3:
Wednesday 23 March 2022

  • Outline the development of digital marketing content
Session 4:
Wednesday 30 March 2022
(online)
  • Learn how to develop digital marketing communications campaigns

Session 5:
Wednesday 6 April
(online)
  • Understand how to measure digital marketing communications campaigns
Session 6:
Wednesday 13 April 2022
(face to face session, Nottingham)
  • Case studies showing practical application
  • Review of assignment requirements
  • One to one coaching session to review assignment

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, you should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

  1. An understanding of the impact of digital technology on your marketing and your customers.
  2. Knowledge of the different tools available to you and how to develop engaging digital marketing content.
  3. Knowledge in how to develop digital communications campaigns and how to measure the effectiveness of these campaigns.

Participants will complete the course with a framework and the initial content for a digital marketing plan which they can then implement within their business.
