Event details

This event aims to bring together researchers, journalists, healthcare professionals, advocates and activists who are interested in examining the role that language can play in perpetuating gender/sexuality-related health discrimination, and the possibilities that language analysis can bring for challenging such inequalities.

The event will include paper presentations and invited keynote speakers, showcasing cutting edge research on the impact of language in constructing health inequalities in various domains, which will include, but is not limited to: healthcare settings (such as GP consultations, gender clinics, maternity services), health promotion materials, media (including social media) reporting, government and health education policies.

The event also provides opportunities for interested parties to engage in dialogue about how scholarship in health communication, feminist, queer and trans linguistics and related fields can bolster the efforts of policymakers to improve the representation and experiences of marginalised communities.
