Event details

Human space settlements are rapidly becoming closer to a reality thanks to major advances in rocket propulsion, astrophysics, and medicine. The urgency to establish humanity as a multi-planet species has also been re-validated by the emergence of a worldwide pandemic.

This month R Humble (NTU) will in her talk The next space race: The first human to be born in space discuss how human settlements off world will need to be completely independent and sustainable. As a result, human reproduction will need to be possible. SpaceBorn United, a private space mission development company, aims to enable exactly this. Their next mission, ARTIS, who's first test flight will occur this April, aims to provide the crucial insights into what gravity levels will enable healthy embryo development. Their space incubator will not only enable human cell research, but also research on a range of mammalian embryos, helping in the selection of mammal species that could flourish in a non-Earth ecosystem.
Next, comes mission Cradle, the first human child to be born in space...

This event is taking place as a hybrid event on NTU campus. This will allow a flexible way of attending. You are currently booking to attend virtually and only the talk component. A link to the material on YouTube will be emailed to everyone who is attending virtually in their confirmation email. We will be happy to answer questions posted as response to the video over the following days. So do keep booking onto this event. If you haven't booked you might need to wait a while before you can see it.

You can also attend the event in person and enter our planetarium but would need to book the Open Dome IN PERSON event to purchase your ticket.
