Event details

Astronomy and in general experiencing the sky above can be an immense inspiration for everyone. This has lead to many competitions trying to capture the amazing visualisations astronomers, amateur-astronomers, astro-photographers and artists have created, as well as stunning exhibitions of their works. One of these is the Astronomy Photographer of the Year ran by the Royal Greenwich Observatory and its 2022 exhibition.

This is an annual competition featuring the world’s greatest space photography. Photographers from across the globe compete to take home the prestigious title. And the winners of the 2022 category for image innovation, Pauline Woolley, will be giving us some insight into her creative process and science leading to her stunning image. In her talk How the Sun made Art P Woolley will outline how over the past decade light from the Sun has been a predominant part of her practice. Here she will discuss how open access data led to the creation of 'Solar Tree' the Annie Maunder Image Innovation category winner of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2022.

Booking is required for this event while attending in person. While attending, you consent to filming, photography, and sound recording – which may include you as a member of the audience – and its use in publication or advertising distribution, either printed or online, without payment or copyright.

This event is taking place as a hybrid event on NTU campus. This will allow a flexible way of attending. You are currently booking to attend virtually and only the talk component. A link to the material on YouTube will be emailed to everyone who is attending virtually in their confirmation email. We will be happy to answer questions posted as response to the video over the following days. So do keep booking onto this event. If you haven't booked you might need to wait a while before you can see it.

You can also attend the event in person and enter our planetarium but would need to book the Open Dome IN PERSON event to purchase your ticket.
