Event details

Tracy is an artist and educator, Professor Emerita, and an alumna of The Glasgow School of Art and The Hungarian University of Fine Arts. In her individual practice and research, she employs drawing, writing and video as dialogical processes to activate playful, provocative and non-linear properties of language within visual art practice, giving a new and refreshed voice to collaborators and subject matters. With her collaborative partner Dr Edwin Janssen, she curates The Museum of Loss and Renewal. Extensive periods have been spent living and working in France, Hungary, Italy, Romania and the Netherlands making art, and establishing art networks and artist-led organisations. She is a founding-Director of Glasgow Sculpture Studios and contributed to the establishment of the French art organisation artconnexion that creates innovative connections between artists and society. She is an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture.

Tracy will talk about how the inter-relationships of place, people and time inform her practice and research. As the ‘Creative Correspondent’ she activates strategies of documenting and reflecting collective processes, themes and sites. These often involve a practice of diagrammatic drawing she has developed as part of her curatorial practice e.g. annotations made rapidly by drawing and writing while listening and looking intensely as situations and activities unfold. Key to her investigation of place, people and time is the art project that she curates with Dr Edwin Janssen, ‘The Museum of Loss and Renewal’. It is a growing collection of shared experiences through the activities of its curators, partners and residents. The residency programmes are situated in the village that has been home to Tracy’s Italian family for centuries.
