In the second of our Global Roots events at University Hall, we're thrilled to be hosting internationally-renowned tabla player Mendi Singh and Jonathan Mayer – one of the most versatile sitarists in the world. Pay what you decide for tickets!

Experience music from India as we welcome renowned musicians Mendi Singh (tabla) and Jonathan Mayer (sitar) to University Hall.

Mendi Mohinder Singh boasts a professional career over three decades, working with the likes of Gary Barlow, Peter Gabriel, Anand Shankar, Shalil Shankar, Darius Brubeck, Courtney Pine, Malkit Singh MBE, Luis Salinas, and Nitin Sawhney. Mendi has performed at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium (India), Chile Stadium (Chile), Bellas Artes (Mexico City), Victoria Town Hall (Brazil), WOMAD festival , Etihad Stadium, The O2 Arena, and Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Jonathan Mayer studied composition and sitar at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. After graduating he studied Imdadkhani gharana under Ustad Wajahat Khan and finally settled in to the Senia veen-kar Gharana with the late Pandit Subroto Roy Chowdhury. He has performed in a variety of genres, and played with artists including Anup Jalota, Kathryn Tickell, Kuljit Bhamra, Erich Gruenburg, Rohan De Sarem, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Bohuslava Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra, Kenny Wheeler, The Orlando Consort, Bombay Dub Orchestra, Future Sounds of London, Karlovy Vary Symphonic Orchestra, and BBC Concert Orchestra.
