We don't usually worry about setting our clocks and watches ourselves to the right time, only complaining while resetting clocks to summer or winter time. But this was not always the case. We had to rely upon time signals from for example the BBC or other sources and our watches were not always as precise as they are now. Even worse, nearly every town had their own time.

The Bromley House Library houses a fascinating historic time keeping tool. Their meridian sundial has a fascinating story to tell about the beginning of the unified definition of time across the UK as well as how sundials keep time. It offers an amazing insight into defining time. Dr Daniel Brown (NTU) together with Matt Hinckley (NTU) and Clare Brown (Bromley House Library Director) will present their joint project in the talk The Meridian Sundial at Bromley House - Current findings from simulations and other examples across the UK. The presentation will include simulated views and scans trying to address how the line was constructed and its precision. The work includes recent high precision 3D models, accurate alignment survey of meridian, results form past citizen science project, and hints upon a most likely construction method of the meridian
