NTU Wheelchair Basketball come away with a spectacular Silver!

On Sunday 2 March the first ever British university level Wheelchair Basketball competition was held at the University of Worcester. The event had been organised in an attempt to raise awareness and increase participation levels in the sport among university students.

The day's event featured our very own Nottingham Trent University team along with, Durham, Northampton, Sheffield Hallam, and University of Worcester. There was a 'round-robin' format to the games, meaning each side played between five to seven matches, and winners of early games soared through to semi-finals. The best two performing teams met to battle it out in the finals.

Much to our delight the NTU gave an outstanding performance, managing to battle their way into the finals and won Silver! We lost graciously to the University of Worcester who won Gold, with the final match score showing 30 -18.

If there was a 'Man of the Match' title, it was said Jack Waring earned this title, as he was both captain of the team for the event and top goal scorer of the day.

Considering our NTU Wheelchair Basketball team have only been playing their sport together since September 2013, they have definitely proved how dedicated and motivated they are towards the sport and should be extremely proud of their achievements from the event.

The NTU Wheelchair Basketball team are a great mix of members - from able bodied students, through to those with mental and physical disabilities, everyone is welcomed and encouraged to come along to try the sport. And, if after reading this story you feel like you would like to try get involved then you can!
