Sir Mark's lecture – Big Data: big opportunities, big brother or big trouble? – will take place at the University's Newton building tonight.

The fully-booked lecture will explore how the world is being shaped by the digital revolution and how the government is fuelling the information economy as it pursues an enthusiastic open data agenda.

It will cover what the future holds for identity, identification, privacy and autonomy – and what role government should play as we navigate the risks and opportunities of the age of big data.

Sir Mark received a knighthood in the 2009 New Year Honours List for services to medical research and was elected as Fellow of The Royal Society in 2011.

The final lecture of this Distinguished Lecture Series will be given by Baroness Sue Campbell – 'Creating a Winning Culture' – on 25 March.
