June 2014 saw The Hive hosting Enterprise Week, made up of two programmes providing support, training and awareness raising to help students to shape their ideas and learn some of the skills and attributes necessary to be a success in business.

Around 30 students attended The Freelance Bootcamp, a one day workshop for those considering setting up as a freelancer. The Bootcamp explored many aspects of setting up as a freelancer, such as the legal requirements, tax and insurance, banking, marketing and branding, pricing your services, creating website, social media and networking to find work.

The Summer School was a three day event for students interested in starting their own venture. The aim was to give attendees knowledge about running their own business and whether their idea had the potential for success. Around 25 students attended and learnt about aspects of business including creative ideas generation, identifying business opportunities and understanding some of the necessary skills and attributes of being an entrepreneur.

Both programmes received some great feedback from attendees, with comments including:

"Very organised and covered a great deal... highly beneficial."

"Genuine enthusiasm by the presenters, I am more motivated to start my own business."

"I have more confidence in my ideas and potential outcomes."

Students with a viable business idea now have the opportunity to gain ongoing support through one of the Hive's programmes such as HeadStart and Enterprise Inc.
