Students are given the opportunity to become an FA Referee

Last year more than 650 students, playing for 64 different teams, took part in Nottingham Trent University's Intramural Football program. Including the University's BUCS fixtures, some weeks saw 32 matches being hosted by NTU. With both the BUCS and Intramural programs continuing to grow this year, there is an increased need for FA Qualified referees to officiate the games. As a large number of referees have full time jobs during the week, they are often unavailable to cover the 11-a-side games on a Wednesday afternoon and the 6-a-side league on a Friday afternoon. As this problem is replicated at University of Nottingham, the two institutions have joined together with Nottinghamshire FA to provide Referees Courses purely for students, with the goal being that both of Nottingham's universities can provide Intramural Football programs solely officiated by their own students.

This year's course will be held at University of Nottingham, is open to students from both universities and costs just £25, less than a quarter of the standard course cost! The course consists of three FA led learning days on 4th, 5th and 11th October at Highfields Sports Ground, where candidates will be educated on elements such as the Laws of the Game, managing game situations and various signals and communication techniques, before undertaking written and practical assessments. Following successful attendance of the three days, the candidates then officiate six 11-a-side fixtures in their institutions Intramural league. Once these games are completed the candidates can then have their portfolios signed off as full qualified FA Referees and they will then be able to be retained as paid referees in both NTU's own and any other local leagues.

This opportunity is open to any student at Nottingham Trent University, but spaces are limited to just twelve places. To register you place download the booking form Word icon and complete and return it, along with your payment for the course, to the main reception at Lee Westwood Sports Centre or the Sports Office in the City Student Union.
