Nottingham Trent University has announced the appointment of six new members to its Board of Governors. They combine more than 150 years of cumulative expertise in senior roles in business with significant contributions to public service.

Neil Goulden was former Chairman of Gala Coral Group Ltd where he enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the University's researchers. He blends extensive experience in leisure retailing with a long and continuing public service. Mr Goulden now runs his own consultancy focussed on the leisure sector and board level mentoring. He is also chairman of a number of organisations, including Affinity Sutton Housing Group, and a member of the Low Pay Commission.

He is joined on the board by Baroness Diana Warwick who has been a member of the House of Lords since 1999. Baroness Warwick spent 14 years as Chief Executive of Universities UK, responsible for representing the interests of 130 universities to government, the media, the public and internationally. She knows the University well both professionally and on a personal level, as her sister is an alumna. Baroness Warwick is also a member of the Board of the Pension Protection Fund and was previously Chair of the Human Tissue Authority and Chief Executive of the Association of University Teachers.

Richard Bullock, Chairman of the University's Board of Governors, said: "For the continuing success of Nottingham Trent University it is vital to refresh the Board with new members of outstanding experience and talent from the public and private sectors. I am sure the quality and depth of the experience of these new board members will help us to maintain and develop the place of the University in the higher education world. It is a sign of the reputation of Nottingham Trent University that such highly regarded people are prepared to invest their time and experience for the benefit of the University."

Four other high-profile figures join them on the board. Nick Collard is Group Marketing and Customer Director for WM Morrisons supermarkets Plc. He is a member of the executive board and is responsible for the supermarket chain's marketing, customer insight, service and relationship management functions, as well as store format and external media relations. During his commercial career, he has also worked for Alliance Boots, L'Oreal, Mars Confectionery and Sainsburys Plc.

Nottingham Trent University alumnus Ian Ellis, Chief Finance Officer at Wilkinsons Hardware Stores Ltd, will add his experience of economics gained initially through graduating from the University with a first class honours in Economics in 1985. He has gone on to fulfil finance roles at companies including Fox's Biscuits and Northern Foods Plc before taking up his current role at the major high street store.

Jill Ridley-Smith has more than 15 years' experience as a private equity investor, a business mentor to small and medium-sized enterprises and strategy consultant. Her diverse industry experience covers digital media, business to business consultancy, healthcare and pharmaceuticals and consumer retail.

Completing the new appointments to the board is Owen Woodley.
