Marketing and public relations expert Will Harris has become the seventh high-profile figure in the past week to take up a position on the board of governors at Nottingham Trent University.

Mr Harris, who was responsible for rebranding the Conservative Party in 2003, has spent nearly 20 years in marketing.

Prior to his spell as Director of Marketing for the Conservative Party, he spent most of his career in telecoms, working as Chief Marketing Officer for Nokia Asia until 2012. He was in charge of building the Orange brand before going on to head up the marketing of Telefonica O2.

Mr Harris is now co-CEO of marketing services and public relations agency Mission Media with offices in London, New York, San Francisco and Singapore. He joined the company in 2014 to turn his attention towards public relations.

Richard Bullock, Chairman of the University's Board of Governors, said: "In addition to his general commercial knowledge from running his own company, Will brings a special expertise to the board in the area of marketing and branding and I look forward to working with him and the rest of the board, including the new members, for the benefit of Nottingham Trent University and the wider region."

The announcement of Mr Harris's appointment follows confirmation last week of the addition to the board of six leaders in both business and public service and comes as the University begins its transformation into the UK's leading 21st century university.

Nottingham Trent University Vice-Chancellor Professor Edward Peck said: "Alongside those members who are already in place, these outstanding leaders will give us one of the most broad-based, talented and experienced boards in higher education."

The new members of the board of governors are Neil Goulden, former Chairman of Gala Coral Group Ltd; Baroness Diana Warwick who spent 14 years as Chief Executive of Universities UK; Nick Collard, Group Marketing and Customer Director for WM Morrisons Supermarkets Plc; Ian Ellis, Chief Finance Officer at Wilkinsons Hardware Stores Ltd and Nottingham Trent University alumnus; Jill Ridley-Smith, who has more than 15 years' experience as a private equity investor and Owen Woodley, Managing Director of Lloyds Bank Retail.
