Our undergraduate Fashion Management, Marketing and Communication students have recently enjoyed a week's trip to New York.

The optional study trip was open to BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion, BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Branding, and BA (Hons) Fashion Management students, and was designed to give them a taste of the American market.

Their itinerary included visits to exhibitions at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Students also had the opportunity to explore the city, taking in sights such as the Empire State Building, Times Square, and Grand Central Station. Of course, they also found time to fit in some shopping too, visiting some of the city's most iconic stores.

Fashion Communication and Promotion student Olivia Clutterbuck Houghton told us: "I would definitely recommend study trips like this to other students. New York is somewhere all fashion students should go, especially if they have an opportunity like this where it is so reasonably priced. NYC is rare, it's diverse and the street style you see is incredible."

Melanie Robertson, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Branding commented: "This is a great opportunity for students to experience one of the key fashion capitals of the world. During the trip the students visited a PR company where they learned about the process of launching a brand into the US market, visited exhibitions and researched the retail landscape to further broaden their knowledge, inspire their thinking and support their studies."

Tanith Roberts, BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion, added: "The highlight of the trip was meeting Tony Triumph, the Fashion and Culture Editor of LIVID Magazine. He told us how he got to where he is now, the importance of interning and what he wished he knew when he was our age, which was really useful and motivating. The trip was a great way to settle into the course, make friends, confirm what you're learning, have fun and most importantly, shop!"
