The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) East Midlands has moved its office from Lincoln to the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at Nottingham Trent University.

The move provides the East Midlands' RIBA office with both a geographic and strategic central location within the region which comprises the counties of Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. RIBA East Midlands represents a total of around 1,200 members and 190 practices of which 120 are RIBA Chartered Practices.

RIBA East Midlands Regional Director, Mike Baulcombe said: "This is a hugely important step for us to take and the relationship we have built up with Nottingham Trent University over recent months in particular has been crucial in bringing the move to fruition.

"I believe that being based in Nottingham provides the RIBA with better links to our members in the East Midlands, as well as with key stakeholders such as local authorities, local enterprise partnerships and other construction professions.

"As a result, the RIBA will also have a higher profile in the region, especially with the political focus moving to cities with greater responsibilities devolved from central Government."

This was echoed by Peter Westland, Dean of the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, who said: "We're very pleased to accommodate the regional RIBA office at our City site and feel that the move will enhance our already strong relationship with the office and further improve our links with industry and practice.

"As the two organisations will be in such a close proximity, we feel that there are significant and mutually beneficial opportunities to work together with the common aim to promote architecture in the region, share our interest in building design and procurement and foster greater understanding and knowledge in the sector."
