Our Final Year BA (Hons) Graphic Design students have raised £1,700 at their art auction, which will be put towards their Degree Show exhibition in June.

Taking place at the Hopkinson Gallery in Nottingham, staff, students and the general public were invited to come along and get their hands on some fantastic originals and prints. The lots for the auction were donated by current students and professional artists including Rob Ryan, Jon Burgerman and a signed Milton Glaser.

Work by Rob Ryan, an established artist who has collaborated with the likes of Paul Smith and Vogue, sold for the highest price on the night, raising £135. There were also lots of successful bids for student work, with the highest reaching £60.

Course Leader, Kathryn Coates commented: "The auction is a great opportunity for our student community to demonstrate their abilities to work as a team to organise, promote and host a fundraising activity. Members of our Degree Show committee successfully liaised with local, national and international creatives to secure donations of artwork for the auction. These pieces were joined by a fantastic variety of work from our Final Year BA (Hons) Graphic Design students – all of which were sold on the night!"

Graphic Design student, Emily Nuttall told us: "We began organising this event in November 2014, sending requests to designers and artists that would potentially be interested in the event. There are 15 students on the Graphic Design Degree Show fundraising committee and each of us had a vital role in making the art auction happen. I have developed skills such as time management as we had to start organising this event in late 2014 to ensure all of the worked could be shipped over in time. We got hold of a Milton Glaser print which came all the way from New York! I definitely learned how to professionally communicate with businesses which is vital for a Graphic Design student when you're looking for work experience."
