Introducing Pegasus, NTU Music's resident jazz quartet

NTU Music introduced their new jazz quartet, Pegasus, during a special event held at the Students' Union.

Tuesday 24 February 2015 was a very exciting evening for NTU Music. Their new resident jazz quartet, Pegasus, were introduced to friends of NTU Music during a cabaret-style evening at The Level Bar in the Students’ Union. The venue was completely transformed for an enjoyable evening of good quality jazz music.

Pegasus features the talents of saxophonist and flautist Casey Greene, guitarist Gareth Fowler, bass player Stuart Barker and drummer Steve Barwell. Both Casey Greene and Steve Barwell also offer woodwind and percussion tuition to NTU students.

The evening was also an opportunity for our NTU Jazz ensemble to perform for the first time. The jazz ensemble is run by Casey and meets every other week.

It was a fantastic evening and the students who attended thoroughly enjoyed seeing their friends perform on stage. Each of the group members were given solo improvisation slots during the performance - a great opportunity to further showcase their talents.

The evening closed with soloists and NTU Choir members Lauren Garrill and Hannah Locke performing with Pegasus during their final set. Hannah, who is no stranger to jazz music (having grown up going to jazz gigs with her father) sang a beautiful rendition of Someone to watch over me whilst Lauren sang I get a kick out of you. The pair concluded the evening with Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, much to the delight of the audience.

All in all it was a fantastic evening, complimented by a great venue and it is hoped that the event will become a termly occurrence as both groups continue to develop.
