Year Two BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Joanna Guthrie has recently completed a five month study exchange at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York.

The School of Art & Design at NTU has a long-running relationship with FIT, and there are opportunities each year for students from our undergraduate Graphic Design and Fashion courses to apply for an exchange there.

Joanna found out about the opportunity in Year One of the course, and had to complete an application and interview as part of the selection process. Her exchange was arranged to start in August 2014, lasting for five months.

During her time in New York Joanna had to select credited classes to fit into her timetable, which included advanced typography, advertising design and product design.

Joanna told us: "The best thing about my exchange was having the opportunity to explore a new place and make international friends. New York is such a vibrant city that there was always something new to do. I would recommend an exchange to other students because you are able to explore a new country, make new friends and learn all at the same time. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity!"
