With the UK's public finances in an unprecedented position and a general election looming, the financial challenges for the next Parliament are to be discussed by the Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), Rob Whiteman, at a Nottingham Business School guest lecture on Wednesday 29 April.

Rob will set out the demographic and other significant policy issues that will need to be addressed in the period 2015-2020 by the next government and outline the need for stronger financial reporting and financial management tools in the UK and globally to support good decision making.

An accountant by profession, he has previously held chief executive positions at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and the UK Border Agency.

At the IDeA Rob led local government's response to the government's agenda for greater self-regulation and improvement. Working across Whitehall he supported policy discussions between the new coalition government and local government.

As Chief Executive of the UK Border Agency in September 2011, Rob was responsible for border and immigration operations and operational policy with 25,000 staff and £1.8 billion budget which included the overseas visa network.

His lecture, The fiscal challenges for the next Parliament, is part of Nottingham Business School's Business Leaders Lecture Series and will take place at 5.45 pm at Nottingham Trent University's City site. For further information or to book a free place please email the NBS events team.
