Nottingham Trent University has climbed 22 places in the overall 'University of the Year' category at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2015.

The university is now ranked 13th in the UK following the awards ceremony on Thursday 23 April, which saw more than 20,000 students across the country vote on different categories relating to university life.

This continues a year where NTU has made significant steps forward in all of the leagues tables relating to student experience and winning a number of major awards.

The university also came second in the 'City Life' category – an increase of 21 places – and third in the 'Student Union' category, jumping 23 places from last year. The university was also shortlisted in the Student Support category, in which it achieved a sixth-place ranking.

The Whatuni student rankings are based entirely on the experiences of students through their reviews. They are designed to cover all aspects of a student's experience, and, as well as the overall rating, students review their universities in nine categories.

The awards, announced at a ceremony in London, aim to provide prospective students with an unbiased, student-led university ranking system.

Nottingham Trent University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edward Peck, said: "It is another tremendous achievement for Nottingham Trent University to increase our overall position in the University of the Year category and to achieve a second and third ranking in the City Life and Student Union categories.

"We have worked extremely hard to make sure our quality of teaching and the range of facilities at Nottingham Trent are second-to-none and we are delighted that our students have recognised our efforts.

"The awards are a valuable resource for prospective students to hear about the quality of education and expectations they can expect to receive from their chosen university, helping them to pick the university that is right for them."
