Product Design at NTU hosts specialist talks from industry experts

Students at NTU will have the chance to hear from a range of experts from industry on product design.

Between April and June, the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment welcomes a host of external experts to talk to current students and staff about their experiences working in industry.

The talks will give valuable opportunities for insight into the many areas of the design industry today, whilst students will also be able to discuss their work and current projects with the experts.

Speakers include:
22 April: Tetsu Mukai, co-founder of Study O Portable. The studio makes objects about the designed environment and our relationship to the cultural landscape that enables it, with a particular interest in the transitional nature of our ideas towards objects.

29 April: Dale Nicholls, a senior designer at Webb deVlam – a strategic brand design firm, ranked 23rd in Design Week's 2014 Top 100 Design Consultancy Survey.

6 May: Kirsty Whyte, an award winning UK designer. Kirsty has worked for retailer Habitat, and has had items manufactured by Made.com, Mudos, Heals and Normann Copenhagen.

13 May: Tom Lloyd, co-found of London design studio PearsonLloyd. The studio's work focuses on design for manufacture in the fields of furniture, transport design and the public realm.

27 May: Shin Azumi, founder of A Studio. It covers product, furniture and special design, working with a variety of clients on consumer products, furniture, lighting, electronics and audio equipment as well as spacial design for shops, restaurants, and exhibitions.

3 June: Lee Broom, one the UK's leading product and interior designers. Lee designs, manufactures and retails his own collections, working closely with specialist traditional craftsman from the initial concept to final production runs.

All talks are free to attend and take place from 10 – 11 am in the Chaucer building on the City site, in Lecture Theatre 1. They are open to design students in the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, as well as alumni, staff and their guests.
