On a sunny afternoon at the Lady Bay rugby ground, Nottingham's two University American Football teams faced off for an important point in the 2015 Varsity Series. In the unofficial varsity match a few weeks beforehand, NTU had beaten UoN 28-0, so expectations were high from the NTU crowd.

The game turned out to be much closer than most people thought it would be. UoN started strongly with some good defensive work that forced NTU to turn the ball over, but some solid work from NTU's own defence led to them getting the ball back and scoring a pretty easy touchdown to gain a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter.

Not too long after the start of the second quarter, NTU had a 14-0 advantage, and the rest of the second half was pretty much dominated by NTU. A fumble from UoN saw NTU's offence back on the field sooner than expected and a huge interception from Chris Stone gave NTU's offence another chance to score, but both possessions failed to yield further points and the half ended with NTU still up 14-0.

Despite some great defending by NTU at the beginning of the third quarter, UoN managed to push over the line and score their first touchdown of the afternoon, but unfortunately for them, they couldn't score the extra point, leaving the score at 14-6.

The final quarter saw some great defending from both sides, with neither team managing to break through and score any more points for the rest of the game, despite both offensive units working hard until the final whistle. The final score was 14-6 to NTU who pick up their 8th consecutive American Football win over UoN.

This leaves the varsity score at 9-7 in favour of UoN, with five fixtures still to come, including Men's and Women's Hockey, Swimming and Cricket. Two wins for UoN in any of the remaining fixtures will see them crowned Varsity champions again this year.
