Professor David Burdette, Director of the Centre for Business and Insolvency Law, delivered a paper at the European Corporate Insolvency Conference held at St Hugh's College, Oxford, on 8 May 2015. The event, titled Restructuring the European Business Enterprise: The Restructuring Recommendation and The Revised European Insolvency Regulation was organised by Professor Horst Eidenmüller (Freshfields Professor of Commercial Law) and Kristin van Zwieten (Clifford Chance Associate Professor of Law and Finance), both at Oxford University. Speakers at the event were drawn from across a number of European jurisdictions, including France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

The conference attracted some 60 delegates and examined developments in European insolvency, particularly the recent reforms undertaken to the European Insolvency Regulation, which is designed to enable the coordination of cross-border insolvencies involving multiple entities and groups within Europe, and which will enter into force in 2017. Also of interest during the conference will be a recent initiative by the European Commission, seeking to identify whether the right rescue frameworks exist in all European Union member states to assist in the recovery of small to medium enterprises.

Professor Burdette's intervention addressed the reforms to the European Insolvency Regulation, in particular the reshaping of the jurisdictional rules.
