NBS Business Management and Entrepreneurship student wins national award

Nottingham Business School's Business Management and Entrepreneurship student, Miles Waghorn, is celebrating after winning the 'Next Generation – New Business Idea' Award at the inaugural VentureFest East Midlands.

Miles is currently on a placement year at The Hive, Nottingham Trent University's designated centre for entrepreneurship, enterprise and business incubation.

His award-winning company, TechSilver, started by Miles in late 2014, is an online based technology store specialising in innovative products and helpful services for the growing senior demographic. He was presented with the prize by Simon Woodroffe OBE, founder of the YO! (Sushi) brand and one of the first ‘Dragons' on BBC entrepreneur show, Dragons Den.

Miles said: "Winning this award is a fantastic accolade not just for myself as an entrepreneur and my business but also for The Hive, who helped me to get to where I am today.

"TechSilver has already had a strong commercial presence both in the local community and the senior technologies industry but I will now be able to use my prize money to help with marketing my e-commerce website."

Entries for the competition had to create a two minute 'elevator pitch' style video, giving a brief summary of their business. Miles' submission was short-listed to the final three by representatives from partner universities.

Following a vote by over 1,500 delegates at the event, Miles won his award category by a significant margin.
