Dr Alexandra Kastrinou, a member of the Centre for Business and Insolvency Law, recently delivered a paper at the Society of Legal Scholars One-Day Labour Law Conference held at the Kingston Law School on 1 May 2015. The event, titled Labour Law in Transition, attracted some 20 delegates from across the United Kingdom drawn from the ranks of researchers specialising in domestic and international employment law.

Dr Kastrinou's paper presented a radical view on the impact of the financial crisis on the protection of employment rights in Greece, Portugal, France and the UK. Her essential argument was that the reforms of corporate rescue in those jurisdictions that have occurred since the onset of the Global Financial Crisis in 2008 should take into account the social function of rescue, which includes the preservation of employment. As such, there should be greater convergence between insolvency law reform and employment law concerns.
