Recently, second year BA (Hons) Product Design students completed a live project alongside Yorkshire-based tea and coffee specialists, Taylors of Harrogate.

The students were asked to design either a new packaging format for Taylors products or a next generation cafetiere. In doing so, considerations to the UK retail coffee market, consumers, brand and consumer insights were key. The work was sent to and assessed by members of the Taylors company with the top four designs being awarded prizes.

The students had to summarise their work on A3 presentation sheets accompanied by a manufacturing report containing technical drawings and 3D representations.

The overall winner of the project was Christopher Lane with Spencer Cartwright, Jacob Tebbot and Martin Lee named runners up. All the runners up received a yearlong supply of Yorkshire tea with Christopher also receiving an iPad.

Representative and Packaging Innovator from Taylors of Harrogate, Will Holmes said: "Some amazing work has been done over the last couple of weeks. We spent a full day looking at every of work and there was quality in every piece."

Christopher travelled up to Harrogate to meet Will where he was awarded for his work and to discuss how his work can be taken forward for prototyping with the company.
