After a well earned three points away to Oxford last week the NTU Women's side were eager to continue their good start to the season against a Northampton team looking for their first win following their 5-2 loss to the University of Nottingham. Unfortunately for the travelling team however it was nothing other than footballing masterclass from NTU who scored an astonishing seven goals to take them to the top of the division.

NTU got off to a flying start as they peppered the Northampton goal following excellent wing play from Sandeep Tak and Jess Wood whilst Laura O'Neill saw her effort just wide after a well worked corner kick. It was not long however before NTU were rewarded for their relentless pressure with Bethany Twigge showing superb skill on the left to dig out a cross for Charlotte Broad to open the scoring for NTU.

Northampton had to wait until the 18th minute before they posed any threat to the NTU defence but were unable to deceive the centre back partnership of O'Neil and Emma Hollingsworth who defined composure throughout the entire game. O'Neil biggest impact of the game came soon after as she unleashed an outstanding shot from 25 yards to make it 2-0 to the home side.

It took less than five minutes for NTU to extend their lead further when Samantha Burton forced in a goal from close range after yet another dangerous corner kick routine to make the score 3-0. Playmaker Camilla Newton's mazy run in the opposition's half was as example of NTU's dominance as they continued to ask questions of the Northampton defence.

It was two goals in quick succession though that gave NTU an unassailable lead before half time as Sandeep Tak cut in from the left hand side before burying the ball in the bottom right of the goal whilst Jess Wood got in on the act to make it 5-0 following a ferocious counter attack from the NTU midfielders.

After much sustained pressure Northampton were lucky to make it to the half way point with only five goals conceded however made a point to salvage the game early in the second half as they attempted to push further up the pitch. The away side were rewarded for their efforts with a free kick close to the NTU goal which the Northampton skipper blazed high and wide with chances proving to be few and far between. The opposition's patience with lack of chances began to boil over when Northampton's number 10 challenged O'Neil recklessly resulting in a yellow card.

NTU soon regained their foothold in the game, dominating possession and chances, as Richards and Twigge continued to stretch the pitch allowing Newton to drive at the opposition's defence. NTU's attacking play once again paid off as Wood punished the Northampton defence to make it 6-0 on the 70th minute with Twigge picking up her second assist of the game.

Fay Noble's midfield creativity began to shine through as she started the move that saw Wood put the game to bed when she completed her hat-trick five minutes later as she slotted the ball past the opposition's defeated goalkeeper and firmly sealed the win the home team. Newton came close to scoring an eighth for NTU but her left footed curler sailed just over the crossbar.

At this early stage in the season NTU have already sent out a statement to the rest of the league proving they will be the team to beat this season and after an immaculate all round performance the home team will go into the next fixture top of the division with a goal difference of +8 having not conceded. Final score 7-0.
