Carly joins NTU as their latest Sport Scholar

NTU is delighted to welcome England Women's goalkeeper Carly Telford to its sport scholarship programme.

This year NTU Sport has awarded over 60 sport scholarships to student athletes competing in a wide variety of disciplines. The scholarships aim to support elite athletes in their field of expertise and allow them to continue in their sporting successes whilst successfully completing their degree.

Carly Telford first got a taste of NTU life through her daily training programme with Notts County Ladies FC. As an official partner of NTU Sport, the Lady Pies regularly train at NTU's Clifton Campus facilities utilising both the high performance centre and the state-of-the-art 3G pitch.

Telford has recently signed another two-year contract with Notts County after helping the team to two cup finals in just two years. The club's success saw Carly play in the FA Cup final at Wembley this year, just months after winning a bronze medal at the World Cup with the England Squad.

Carly landed herself a hat-trick of successes this year after confirming a place on an undergraduate degree at Nottingham Trent University in BA (Hons) Media Studies (with Pathways). She will study for her degree certificate alongside her football programme.

Performance Sport Manager, Chris Campbell, told us of his excitement in welcoming Carly to NTU, saying: "We are tremendously excited and proud to be able to invite a player of Carly's undoubted ability and reputation to join our sport scholar programme.

"She is without a doubt one of the highest profile athletes currently in the sector and her achievements over the last 12 months speak for themselves. We look forward to assisting her in balancing her academic studies and sporting commitments through the access she now has to our range of support services.

"I hope she will be an inspiration to all of our students involved in our range of programmes."

Carly will kick-off Nottingham Trent University's This Girl Can week by giving coaching tips to students taking part in the women's football penalty shoot-out, on Monday 30 November at Clifton Campus.
